NEWSIES, 2018

Newsies at The Looking Glass Playhouse
Director: Jason Johnson
Set Design: Marsha Holland
Lighting Design: Andrew Sanker

In this show, I heavily focused on getting a dark gritty look across the stage and actors while still being well-lit. This was really important as most of the scenery was very minimal and we wanted to express the darker side of New York in the 1890s. The only time the viewer sees a bright clean look in a scene is in the Pulitzer office to symbolize their wealth and better living conditions. The lighting is primarily emotion-driven in this production with setting and location being the secondary use of lighting.
This production and lighting were nominated in 2018 for an Arts For Life, Best Achievement in Lighting Design Award.
